1192 - CIVIL WAR PHOTOGRAPH OF AN ARMED CIVIL WAR UNION CAVALRY TROOPER. 1/6th PLATE, FRAMED AND GOLD-GILT MATTED IN LEATHERETTE CASE.
This is a world-class sixth-plate civil war cavalry image that would be difficult to improve upon in terms of its content and clarity. This young soldier is dressed in the standard cavalry shell jacket and quilted pants. The best part is his weaponry. The Colt Navy Revolver in his belt and Cavalry Sabre are great, but pale in comparison to the martial Springfield Single-shot Pistol/carbine with detachable Shoulder-stock that is resting on his thigh. This is a super quality and extremely rare image, worthy of the best collections. A similar photo was sold on Ebay last year for over $4,000.00 with scores of underbidders. I like this one better. If it doesn't sell, it's going into my little display of collectibles.

897 - BEAUTIFULL, EARLY CIVIL WAR DRUM WITH NEW YORK REGIMENTAL BANNER.
This is without a doubt, the finest condition drum we have ever handled and it is in "world-class" condition. It is filthy dirty, but retains 98% of its original hand painted eagle motif. It still retains original heads and snare with a perfect makers label in the interior -"William Hall & Son/Manufactures of MILITARY and Toy drums/Musical Instruments/543 Broadway/New York". Hall received a Federal contract for regulation drums in 1861. The rope and a few leathers appear to have been replaced during its period of use. This drum is outstanding.

855 - ORIGINAL CIVIL WAR McCLELLAND OFFICERS SADDLE. IDENTIFIED TO LT. COLONEL CHARLES E. WALBRIDGE OF THE 100TH NEW YORK INFANTRY.
This saddle was purchased by well-known leather expert Walte Budd at auction not long ago. It is accompanied by a wonderfull transcribed journal (originally written by family members in 1873), original CDV photo and some other paperwork. The saddle and other items were placed in the auction by direct descendants of Col. Walbridge, who was from originally from Buffalo, New York. It is in good, strong condition and could probably be ridden today (although I don't recommend it). This regiment is included by Col. Fox among the "three hundred fighting regiments" of the war and earned its reputation for gallantry on many a hard fought field. It left the state for Washington on March 10, 1862, 960 strong, and soon after its arrival was assigned to Naglee's (1st) brigade, Casey's (2nd) division, 4th corps. It joined in McClellan's Peninsular campaign, its losses at Fair Oaks being particularly severe-176 killed, wounded and missing. The regiment was present at all the operations about Charleston harbor during the spring of 1863, and, under the command of Col. Dandy, engaged in the desperate assault on Fort Wagner in July. It then engaged the enemy at Port Walthall Junction, Chester Station, Swift creek, Procter's creek, Drewry's Bluff and Bermuda Hundred. Its losses during this campaign were again very heavy, amounting to 280 in killed, wounded and missing. It was next engaged in the assault on the works of Petersburg, the battles of Deep Bottom, Strawberry Plains, Fort Harrison, Darbytown Road and Fair Oaks. In the action at Strawberry Plains it lost 81 in killed, wounded and missing, at Fair Oaks, the loss was 17, and while in the trenches before Petersburg it met with frequent casualties, aggregating 28 killed, wounded and missing. It was actively engaged at the fall of Petersburg, April 2, 1865, when it made a gallant and successful assault on Fort Gregg and sustained a loss of 59 in killed and wounded. It then participated in the pursuit of Lee and was present at Appomattox.

811 - UNION, REGULATION SIZED CIVIL WAR REGIMENTAL BATTLE FLAG ON ITS ORIGINAL FLAG STAFF, COMPLETE WITH SPIRE AND TASSLES.
AS RARE AS IT GETS! I know I'll probably never find another one. This is an original Civil War Regimental Battle-Flag on its original staff with tassles. I purchased a fantastic Illinois Majors Frock Coat and Vest over a year ago from the same area that this flag came from. The set was ID'd to an Illinois Colonel who was killed leading a charge at Kennesaw Mountain. I was told by the picker that he had missed a regimental flag that the family had sold previously. I believe this to be the same flag that he had missed. After some study, I am certain that indeed, this is a pattern that is found to be used most often by Illinois Regiments. It is 100% original and untouched and needs some help from a good collector. It is in generally fine condition but suffers from the problem of flaking paint on the right wing, tail and regimental banner. This could easily be mounted and/or conserved. I am not interested in making a killing on this flag. I have priced it very low in the hope that a good collector will buy it and have it properly mounted and/or conserved. You don't have to be wealthy to own this fine flag. It will be offered on a first come, first serve basis and I expect there to be many inquiries. Again, this is a flag that conserved could demand $25,000 - $35,000.00 or more when conserved and mounted. I want it to find a good home and am offering it at a fraction of that range. This is a WORLD-CLASS hat with all the bells & whistles. It retains its original lining, sweatband and makers label from Schuyler, Hartley and Graham. It has its ORIGINAL insignia and is not one of those hats that's had a "wondering patch" applied to it. It's missing the strap-loop and has only a moth nip or two. This is for the finest of collections.

591 - HISTORICALL INSCRIBED CIVIL WAR ERA GOLD POCKET WATCH WITH HISTORIC PRESENTATION.
This is a great item that was sold from this website previously and then returned to us as the watch needs repair. It is wonderfull and the only Gold Watch with presentation that I have ever come across. The inscription reads, "Presented by Co. H, 52 Reg. P.V. To Capt. E. R. Peckens at Beaufort, SC. April 30, 1863". Peckens (spelled "Peckins" in the National Archives) served with the 52nd at Lee's Mills, Williamsburg, Seven Pines and Fair Oaks. A folder with his records and regimental history are included.

427 - 35-STAR CIVIL WAR CAVALRY GUIDON.
This Guidon was in my personal collection until recently. It needs to be re-mounted, as it is basically complete but shows some material gaps from shifting of the silk. A good re-mount should stabilize it. The colors have run into each other (as is common) and the gold painted stars are turning to a green patina. This happens when a copper alloy is used in the original paint and the oxidation process takes over after several decades. It is 100% original and looks striking with a nice frame. The last guidon in this general condition sold at auction in the last year or two for close to $10,000. As flags seem to be one of the hottest items on the market today, I'm sure this one won't last long at my price, which is more than fair.

1008 - McLEAN HOUSE BRICK. TAKEN FROM THE DISMANTLED RESIDENCE THAT WAS USED BY THE WARRING GENERALS GRANT AND LEE TO SIGN THEIR TREATY AT APPOMATTOX.
This came from the collection of a former Michigan Civil War Roundtable Head who passed away last year. The card is old and yellowed and looks at least as old as its date. It is well-documented that the McLean house was disassembled in the 1890's and sat for prey to vandals and thieves for many years. It was re-assembled after WWII, and many of the original bricks and other parts were replaced due to the originals' deterioration. I can't guarantee this to be original, but it gives many onlookers goose-bumps and makes a fantastic conversation piece.
